NEWS RELEASE January 2009

The 2009 "Back Through Time History Trail" has become a year long project of the South Texas Back Through
Time Historical Association and everyone who likes history is invited to participate! If you own a historic
property, have a history related business such as a quilting shop, antique store, or windmill company for
example, or operate a museum or library, or maybe you are a member of a history related organization then
you are invited to list your operation in the history trail marketing brochure for a nominal fee. Marketing history
and increasing tourism in rural South Central Texas is what the conceptual "Back Through Time History Trail"
is all about.

Likewise, if you are an individual who enjoys getting "into to history" there are numerous volunteer positions
available for marketing, graphics, tours guides and more positions that will be developed as needed
throughout the year.

Originally, the history trail brochure included historic properties, businesses, and non-profit organizations
who sponsored special history related events during the month of June only. Recently, the history trail was
expanded to a year round venue. Participants can now have an ad in the brochure which includes any special
history events planned as well as information about the sponsor so that the public can visit the location any
time of the year either to attend an event or just to visit the business or non-profit. Brochures are distributed
to area Chambers of Commerce, hotels, motels, restaurants and participating businesses as well as being
posted on the internet. The Historical Association's marketing director is in charge of publicizing locations
through news releases to print and visual media during the year in order to keep the "Back Through Time
History Trail" easily accessible to the traveling public.

The month of January has been set aside for sign up of interested trail participants, so please call
361-358-1550 today to receive more information or to request an application.

If you were unable to attend the South Texas Back Through Time Historical Association meeting this month at
the Courtyard Gallery in Cuero you really missed an exciting meeting in an exciting atmosphere. Surrounded
by local art and in a historic building, our hostess, Kerry Rhotenberry offered us a memorable evening. When
in Cuero, be sure to look Kerry up at the Courtyard Gallery. It is a treat.

During the business meeting several new items were approved:

1. Changed the event name to spell out "Thru" to Through in Back Through Time History Trail and in the
Association name.

2. Each participating county is requested to select an Association representative who will serve as the major
contact for that county. It is suggested that this representative be on the local historic commission or be
willing to visit that group and serve to keep the commission informed on Association business and that the
commission fund a section in the trail brochure to showcase their county's upcoming historic events and
activities for the year. The representative will serve as the marketing and PR person for the county and the
contact for new and returning participants. Reps are needed in San Patricio, Karnes, and Wilson counties.
Would you like to serve in this capacity? Call the number below.

3. It was decided to keep the brochure format but it will be expanded to include each county's upcoming
historic events/activities for the year. The brochure will be useful year around with this approach as will the
other trail info. Participants may now schedule their special history activities any time during the year not just
in June.

4. It was decided that outreach be conducted to invite participation from history related organizations,
businesses in surrounding counties: Lavaca, Jim Wells, Aransas, Live Oak, Atascosa, Gonzales, etc. News
releases, PR will be sent to these counties in the future to solicit participation in the 2009 Back Through Time
History Trail.
Counties with participating sites currently on the trail are Bee, DeWitt, Goliad, Refugio, San Patricio, Karnes,
and Wilson. Needed in these counties are more participants such as libraries, museums, main street
programs, businesses housed in historic structures, antique shops, and non-profits which conduct events
featuring a historic connection.
